![]() | If you were to look through other games I've played for any length of time you'd see a Maxed out on archer on every one. I was putting off having a fighter until my T hunter was finito but I enjoy killing things quite frankly and Magic gets pretty boring pretty quickly (essential for a t hunter though). When I found a lot of archery equipment in Haven I took it as a sign to start (You should see my crossbow collection, tis well good) so tonight I started my first sans fletch archer. I'm getting more used to UO now, really enjoying it and I even used my noggin and knowledge off stratics to get extra dex quickly by starting with 1 point and without buying archery. Because I only want my archer for PvM I don't see any need for trickery like chiv or bush (could be wrong though). So I went to the archery trainer in Haven to see what a 'pure' archer was. Resist spells wasn't recommended but I know enough to know I'm screwed without it. Anyway I found that I need Archery Tactics Anatomy Heal Focus Resist Parry I could afford to buy a 110 Archery scroll and probably tactics anatomy and resist as well so I'd like those at 110. But because its a new account and I'm a newb I don't know how to distribute my points to optimize each skill without a lot of cost in the quality of the finished archer. I wasn't too fussed about parry really but dungeons can get crowded and it would probably be nice to not get killed all the time. Because of my currently low archery I can't fight more than one ettin without a lot of dodging around. In a dungeon - I don't intend to go to one till at least 60 archery - dodging isn't as easy so apart from a template help I need a little advice on how to 'crowd control' with a pure archer or is that why everybodies a chivhead? Thanks for reading ![]()

![]() | Re: PvM Archery Help I think Chivalry is a MUST in PvM to max out damage (Enemy of one, divine fury and concentrate weapon) And I dont think Parry works with bows ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: PvM Archery Help Correct, parry does notwork with bows. But you did a nice job of researching the skills for a new player. In PvM, you do not necessarily NEED resists. It does help a bit, but not essential. Resisting spells has two benefits, resists spells comapred to casters evaluating int, and it raises your natural resists (Without Armor). Amount depends on your resist spell level. At 120, you have a naural resists of 44 in all 5 areas. BUT this is overridden by your total armor resists. As a warrior type, you will want at LEAST 60 resists in each, so 1/2 of the reason for resisting spells is nullified. For the resisting spells part, you can get around the worst of those with spells from chivalry and items. Archery - 120 Tactics - 100 Anatomy - 100 Heal - 90 Chiv- 76 Bushido- 120 (for lightning strike, a huge damage multiplier when it goes off, and helps you hit more.) Focus - 94[i]while training, then down. You will actually want meditation over Focus. Once you have a nice medable armor suit (this can take a while), then swap out focus for med.I] Alternatively, you could go with some necro for wraith form (mana leech on hit, immune to poisons (up to lvl 4), never fail at recall, but slow moving, cannot mount) or Vampiric Embrace (Immunity to poisons up to lvl 4, Mana regen +4, Stam Regen +4, HP leech on hit, and can ride mounts). Most people running these forms use items to boost their necro to the minimum amount to cast it. If you chose to do this, lower med / focus while gaining necro. For training purposes, I would raise focus, necro and med at the same time, then work on you warrior skills. This will be much faster. If you have access to a 100% LRC suit, that will really help.

![]() | Re: PvM Archery Help Thankies Few more questions though just so I'm clear on things. What stats should I be looking at? For now I have 85 str because when I die (like I did earlier) I like being able to use hvy x bow to get a nice bolts used/money earnt ratio. Because your not able to parry with a bow but monsters still miss would confidence work? I was thinking of bushido anyway for the ulterior motive of the Yumi specials.I've seen 76 as the standard point to stop training chivalry before, why is that a good place to stop? Will using a paladin/bushido ability when one is active cancel out the first if its in the opposite skill? I'm thinking lightning strike/consecrate. For resists would exceptional iron chain/plate probably give 60 physical resist? For now I'm only at lizards and ettins which only hit physical damage. What does the archery skill do? Does it increase accuracy? Thanks ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: PvM Archery Help Max your dexterity as high as you can...I like to work items into my armor suit so I can have 140+ dex, 95-100 strength, and th rest in intelligence. If you have 140+ dex, and 90 healing, you get max speed 4 second bandages, which is as fast as you can get. You will also get the maximum SSI out of whatever bow you use. You want strength where it's at to carry the loot, and you need intell for the mana to run any specials on your weapons. I also try to have a lot of MR, MI, SR, LMC and HPI on my armor (well, the most you can and not go broke buying it lol). Last edited by jfk; 6th September 2007 at 11:14 AM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: PvM Archery Help If this is purely for PvM, you can keep your chiv to 70. I don't train any of my chars above 60 chiv. This is good enough for the spells you need to cast. You can cast consecrate weapon and then just lightning strike all you want. The duration of CW will depend on how high your karma is. Glorious Lady/Lord lasts about 10 secs. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: PvM Archery Help Once you get more of a financial base, try to move away from consecrate weapon by using bows with elemental damge against your main targets weakest resist. That will save alot of time on mana regen, letting you use the more damaging effects. One note, weapon specials cannot be used while using bushido spells. But Chivalry and bushido stack nicely, especially with Enemy of one. 76 is the preferred stopping point because you can then use all the chivalry spells, including resurrecting others. 60 Physical is great for starting. I have a list here of a normal range of monsters from 0 to 120 that deal mainly physical damage. 1) Warrior Heartwood quests by skill level Neophyte (30 ) Novice (40) Apprentice (50) Plague Spawn Alligator, Black Bear, Bogling, Brown Bear, Bullfrog, Giant Toad, Ghoul, Skeleton, Skittering Hopper, Timber Wolf Corpser, Cougar, Grey Wolf, White Wolf Ettin, Gaman Frost Spider, Grizzly Bear, Panther, Polar Bear Journeyman (60) Red Solen Worker Enslaved Gargoyle, Lizardman, Orc, Troll, Ratman Bogling Expert (70) Gazer Larva Dire Wolf, Giant Ice Serpent, Lava Lizard Orc Chopper, Orcish Lord, Swamp Tentacle Harpy, Ogre Adept (80) Black Solen Infiltrator (Warrior) Dull Copper Elemental, Earth Elemental, Stone Gargoyle Cyclopian Warrior, Doppleganger, Juka Warrior, Stone Harpy, Terathan Warrior Frenzied Ostard Master (90) Black Solen Infiltrator (Queen) Bone Knight, Frost Troll, Skeletal Knight Artic Ogre Lord, Ogre Lord Grandmaster (100) Giant Beetle, Fire Beetle, Plague Beast Lord Hiryu, Lesser Hiryu use the monster compendium on uo.stratics.com to find thier location in the world. This will also help with determing which resists are their lowest. Archery increases accuracy. Anatomy and Tactics and STR help with damage. Dex helps with swing speed. We have damage and swing speed discussion in the common FAQ forum. The link is the far right one in my signature, or click here For crowd control, take a look at our PvM thread for luring.

![]() | Re: PvM Archery Help Thats great, really great Been using this thread for 2 days and forgot to write a thanks Hoping for 90 archery tomorrow already After partying with a necromancer I was thinking of switching to necro over pally/bush but when lightning strike started kicking in more I had to stick![]() Bumped into a member of the T hunting guild I'm in and got uber twinked with HotL and a Horselord, I only asked him to make a regular yumi so I could armour pierce ^^. I'm already getting a good financial base as well from Shame, I can get 60k an hour from Earth Ele's and lose 1 arrow per 2 killed, so I'm hoping to get more mediable armour soon ![]() Thanks again ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: PvM Archery Help Now that you are at 90, shift over to Solens. make alot more money selling powder of translocation, plus you will need your own supply. make sure you save the gems, they add up quickly. Around 95, or when you get tired of fungus, shift to Artic Ogre Lords with a Fire- damage type Ogre Slayer bow. That will bump you up quite a bit in the gold per hour department.
