![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | [solved] Auto-patcher doesn't auto-patch anymore Hi, First, I'd like to apologize if this isn't the right forum to post my problem. Also, sorry for the mood of the post, but right now I'm tired. VERY tired. And annoyed. After LOTS of trouble to get the trial version downloaded (the zip file was corrupted for 4 times, so I've been downloading it more than 10 hours when just 2 and a half would have been enough at my actual dl speed), and my credit card validated (better don't ask), well, this just does it. I got it to install, yes, but in the patching process it has just broken. It applied a few patches, freezing my computer every now and then for no apparent reason (anyway, I guess it was just decompressing or copying archives, but a WHOLE freeze every time it did that? my god). Eventually it froze a bit too much until I got a blue screen of death and a reboot. Sigh. Anyway, after rebooting I tried to go on with the patching. But... what I feared just happened. Something got screwed up in the process. Now the auto patcher just stops and shows this message each time I run it: Code: Starting patch session... Transferring patch information Downloading patch uokr_win32_2-45-6-3.rtp( 42909408 bytes ) Downloading patch uokr_win32_2-45-6-3.pat( 11 bytes ) Downloading patch uokr_win32_2-45-6-3.rtp( 42909408 bytes, resuming ) Downloading patch uokr_win32_2-45-6-3.pat( 11 bytes, resuming ) Applying patch patch\uokr_win32_2-45-6-3.rtp Error applying patch Error during session Your client may not be the most recent version. You may be able to play the game with your current client. Check http://www.uo.com/ for help on resolving patching issues. Click OK to play the game or Cancel to abort. I've deleted all the contents in the "patch" folder and tried again, but it just keeps doing the same and showing the same message. BTW, I've been trying to access UO/EA official support page and, guess what? It's broken too: "Requested page could not be found". If all this wouldn't be happening to me I'd be laughing too. Sooo.... Any ideas apart of reinstalling the whole thing? And... Is this all this... erm... bad trip I've been on (corrupted install files, problems with credit cards, patching system blowing up your comp and breaking) something normal for the average UO player? TBH, UO will have to be EXTREMELY engaging and fun to overcome all the trouble I'm going trhough. Really. And sorry again for the rants, just can't help it, and I'm really EAGER to try this thing... Eventually... Last edited by kenoxit; 30th August 2007 at 01:54 PM.. Reason: applied the [solved] tag to the thread title |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Auto-patcher doesn't auto-patch anymore Welcome to UO Forums kenoxit ![]() OK that was the good news. It seems several peeps are having problems with patching. It sounds like you have done most of the "normal" fixes. Just to mention some things that might help. Be sure to have all antivirus/firewalls turned off. You can delete the patch folder, redownload the patch. Repeat as necessary and it will suddenly work. You can also just restart the client a few times (without deleting the patch folder) and it has been known to complete the upgrade. Also make sure your drivers are all updated. And lastly there is a good chance it will not finish patching because KR is not working with all machines yet. If all that hasn't killed your desire to play UO. I would recommend downloading the 2D client until you can play KR. UO is a great game. The troubles with are having with KR is not making a good first impression .Vepl |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Auto-patcher doesn't auto-patch anymore Thanks for the warm welcome and advice, Vepl ![]() I've got some good news. I'm in. Yes, I'm surprised also. Checking the UO folder I found this "UOKR.exe", I double clicked it expecting the "you're not correctly patched" kind of message, but nope. I've been able to create a character and start with the newbie quests. But... there had to be a but, heh. I'm supposed to kill some skeletons. Ok, I killed one, but I guess I've been just lucky there, because I don't see skeletons at all. Just some moving vertical rectangles. The "skeletons": ![]() So, indeed, something went wrong with the patch process. That looks like some kind of corruption. Apart from that, I just can't finish the quest because I can't loot those rectangle skeletons (they leave no corpse after dying). I guess I should try to restart the client but, honestly, right now I don't know what to expect and I fear that my "newbie quests" can break if I do that (I've read somewhere that they lead to some equipment and other goodies, so I want that). Can I quit and resume the quests at the point I left them? Any help on the graphic thing? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Auto-patcher doesn't auto-patch anymore Well, all is finally working as intended. I see dead chaps: ![]() My installation and patching was definitely unfinished, that's why the red rectangle thing, among other missing strings and problems I had while playing. What shocks me is that the client has no way at all to discern if it's actually patched or not. In fact, if I had to believe the game, it was patched (showed the latest patch version as the one installed in the login area), when as logic stated the patching process stopped way before that. But, somehow, UO just let me play with my unpatched game when opening directly the "UOKR.exe" file. So, trying to be positive and thinking that somebody out there can be just as unlucky as I've been, here are some tips:
This has been the most tedious, frustrating and discouraging approach to a "new" game since I can remember. And TBH I've had enough of this for a very long time. Anyway, thanks for the help and enjoy... if UO lets you ![]() [edit] some grammar Last edited by kenoxit; 30th August 2007 at 03:45 AM.. |

UO has a very steep learning curve. IMO it's a bit too steep for brand new players. UO:KR is a bit worse right now, since there are a lot of bugs to be worked out. Give 2d a try for now maybe. See if that's any better for you. Once you get in, and start to familiarize yourself a bit, the game is really worth it. The sense of community is like no other. Being able to own your own house rocks. Making friends, joining a good guild, all of it is fun. Give it another shot before you call it all off? ![]() We are all broken and wounded in this world. ![]() ![]() | Re: Auto-patcher doesn't auto-patch anymore Have been having the exact same problems as Kenoxit and had previously tried unsuccessfully to download the game electronically. Bought the game on disc but the things has the same patch error message as above. Will look to uninstall the whole thing and reinstall again and just hope that cures it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Auto-patcher doesn't auto-patch anymore Hi all, @Gorthyn: I hope reinstalling and repatching works for you also. Just make sure you don't touch your computer while it's doing it, just in case. At least don't use CPU intensive stuff. That should be enough. Anyway, it's a damn long process. Patching took me about 2 hours. And the file size of the UO directory was always about 2,5gb. So, it's not like the patches are 1gb each. Honestly, I don't know how they've done it, but patching UO takes longer than installing Bioshock 3 times in a row when the patched UO is as big in size as the Bioshock demo. @Adri: Thanks for the encouragement. From what I've seen you're totally right about the UO community. It's probably the most mature and helpful I've found around. Kudos to all you UOers for that ![]() Anyway... Let's say UO isn't my cup of tea. And it's a pity, because I think UO could be a great game that anybody would enjoy. There's LOTS to do. There's a lot of customization compared to what's around right now. Those are its strong points. No doubt. And visually, KR is a nice addition. It probably won't appeal that much the youngest "anime generation" but the Fallout-Baldur-esque feeling is definitely interesting for the post-teens /young-adults like myself. Unfortunately there's still a big obstacle for a player like me that would require changing things that would upset most of the vets at SOE/SWG levels. Because what I find more problematic are precisely the game mechanics. I frankly find them extremely redundant and... outdated. Maybe KR and a expansion isn't enough to keep up with the times. But be it or not, the worst is that KR was launched and promoted outside the UO community in this extremely raw, unstable and buggy state ( I haven't mentioned problems like the "disappearing mouse pointer", but yes, I've suffered them also in barely some hours of gameplay ). I have the impression that if you, the UO vets, decide to leave, EA can call it game over. And, unfortunately, a game that reaches that point is far away from healthy. And I stop here because I know the deal. And I know what kind of responses those statements have. So don't take it personally. It's just my opinion after all ![]() |

![]() ![]() | Re: Auto-patcher doesn't auto-patch anymore Well I updated my drivers, un-installed the game, made sure my anti virus and firewall were disabled, turned off all un-required background progs and began to patch.... Guess what ? Exactly the same problem at exactly the same point (the patch starts applying then it all freezes and I get the message) Honestly I am so gutted have been waiting YEARS for a proper upgrade for UO and I can't even play it. What a complete load of (self censored) ![]() As someone who was tired of 2D and all its outdated characteristics this could well mean the end of me playing the game in any meaningful way after getting on for 8 years ![]() |
