I have been playing this game for four years and have just started a fisherman. Am I crazy or is this the slowest gaining profession ever? I have been playing for an hour now and have recieved .1 gain, thats it! Am I missing something, is there anything i can do? I am so discouraged........

Depending what lvl you are at?

I am at 64.2 and can fish very well along the coast but with no gains. I go out on a boat and cant fish up anything and still no gains. Strange.....

Aye in order to gain you must be in "deep" water. This is only accessible by boat with one exception I know of by the docks in emmm forgot the city Try running your boat on slow forward til you hit a gain spot then stop and keep fishing it until no gains after 3 or 4 attempts. rinse and repeat. you used to be able to 8x8 it but no longer so not sure the fastest way to gain anymore other than keep trying

I have started in the deep water and will see how it goes. So far after 10 minutes of fishing, no gains. Seems like this skill is skewed, you know, with my swordsman i hit 20 monsters and get like 8-10 gains. I have fished over 30 times and not one gain. Weird......

Reminds me of taming...urgh
I bought an advanced character token for taming, which starts you with 85 taming.
I went and tamed in excess of 50 great harts and over 40 bulls, in all of that, I got 0.1 in gains.
One of the reasons I didn't come back to UO, I just don't have the patience for skill gains I'm afraid.

there are several skills 'taming for instance' which take forever to gain others are easy to gain in just a day or two

How many total skills points do you have on this character?

If your near the cap (700/ 720 for 4 year vet) your gains are going to be slow to none, except for your ggs.

Now if you are near the cap, if you can soulstone/soulstone fragment(please be careful not to flush any filled stones, they can only hold one skill at a time) off everything you can, except fishing (obviously), your fighting skill, travel method.(magery, chivarly) What you are trying to do is get your total skill points under 300, gains are faster then.

Hmm interesting idea..
So a character with just 50 taming, would probably get some nice 'n fast gains eh?

They will gain faster than a character that is close to the overall cap.

And its not just an idea, I have used it on a few times to redo a character or two, I saved and soulstoned skills I wanted on my new character. Added the two or three, begin training. It goes quite quickly at least to gm compared to a character near the skill cap.

If you have created a new character from zero, to try the new haven quests, you will see EAMythic bumped up skill gains, when they are really low, it takes no time at all to go from zero to 50 by just playing (not buying skills)

Also when they add armslore into the mix, I had no crafters with armslore.

I soulstoned all 7 skills off on one character, I then started armslore from zero. I created a macro in UOA to armslore my newbie dagger (maximum lines in macro) just walked around overland shopping on vendors not in luna, when the macro ran out I hit my play macro button again. I gmd armslore in about 9 hours just window shopping.

Taming is the only skill I have never done. So I can not give an accurate answer on that.
