A Thirst for knowledge (and vimto)

I've decided to get back into the swing of Role playing and I've tried a few times to have a nice character. Fact of the matter is though, it's just so damn easy to play a bad guy. So I want to make a Zealot (if you can start 1 man guilds the Sosarian Inquisition is on its way!) so yeah, I have an idea of the skills I'll want but there's 10 and only 700 skill points.

Not being too used to Ultima yet I don't know exactly where I can drop skills for others. So I was hoping to get some advice just to get a character both fun to play and able to be Zealoty. I figured I'll need

Fencing (No Dagger, No Zealot)
Resisting Spells
Cartography
Mining
Alchemy(Heal, explosions, poisoning)
Poisoning (Enough for Deadly poison to be able to be applied)
Hiding
Lock picking
Focus
Tactics (Definitely the minimum to allow for infectious strike)

So any help just to get my nasty little zealot on the go would be great

You donīt need Tactics for Infectious. Infectious uses Poisoning instead.

Ulfhedinn, I don't fully understand what it means to be a "Zealot". The list of skills you posted would do better on two different types of characters. Cartography, mining, lockpicking would be great on a thunter. Your warrior could easily use fencing, tactics, resist spells, (chivalry or anatomy and healing) and poisoning. In fact depending on what you choose you might have room for one more.

If you can give a little more information it is possible we can help even more

Re: A Thirst for knowledge (and vimto)

Id definately go for something that included some of the following

Fencing
Hiding
Stealth
Poisoning
Necromancy

Zealot = someone who is fanatical about something.

In the first century A.D zealots first came into being as a group of Jews in Judea.

They advocated the violent overthrow of Roman rule and vigorously resisted the efforts of the Romans and their supporters to heathenize the Jews.

A Zealot from another game

The Zealot of Khaldun Knight. He turns into a Skeletal Knight when destroyed.

Re: A Thirst for knowledge (and vimto)

Yeah I've heard of them as a group but I've heard the term zealot used in other contexts. More like a religous fanatic. Half assasin/half truth seeker or in UO's case treasure hunter.

Anyhoo, I know some skills I can leave a few lvl's out but I don't know which ones. So here's what I thought to be able to bridge that gap between assasin and treasure hunter.

100 Fencing
100 Poisoning
100 Alchemy
90 Cartography
30 Focus
90 Resist Spells
90 Lockpicking
Hiding I'm unsure about, and chivalry for its religous/teleport reasons

I hate to "rain on your parade" Ulfhedinn. With no tactics, chivalry, anatomy you will do minumal damage. Now your infectious strike will be nice. Just takes a long time for anything to die from poison. You have no way of healing yourself except with potions. So unless you plan on digging up the treasure and hiding while someone else kills the baddies or hope the baddies wonder far enough away for you to loot. It's not the best template. Not saying it's not playable just don't think you will find it enjoyable

Aye, I found out like a while after posting it that something pops out when you dig. If your a navvy its usually your butt crack, if you a treasure hunter its usually a nasty beastie. Explains why treasure hunters sometimes have bardic skills as well. Is treasure hunting solo do-able? I guess I can just carry a dagger to look the part.

Re: A Thirst for knowledge (and vimto)

I would not recommend T=hunting alone. Most the T=hunters I know, always take a group with them to help kill the spawn.

T-hunting is definitely do-able alone/solo. Most that play this type of t-hunter are of the bard type
