Loss of a rare? Yyou're all gonna hate me, but if I get a duplicate of a rare, I toss the other one in my trash barrel, as well as other items which are pseudo-rares. Why? Because I can! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Hmmm, worst, that would be dropping a whole house of stuff on Ches. I was transferring houses between chars as I consolidated a couple of accounts. The house on Ches was full of stuff, holiday gifts, tokens, resources. I mean tons!
In any case, while transfering the accounts I forgot to go back to Ches and change the owner. Since I rarely play the shard anymore it was a while before I went back and saw....no house.
And thats the story of my first case of pixel crack withdrawal!

Don't know if you can consider this a rare, but a long time back maby 2001 or so after I bought my third house. (a sandstone with patio) I was making the big bucks. I had saved up around 6 mil and spent 4 mil on the house and decided I was going to purchase some dye tubs. I was still kind of a noob that basically played so much and sold stuff I was able to acquire a lot of gold. (took me 1 year fighting in despise as a warrior) At that time gold was a lot harder to come by. After saving for a year I bought my largest house I had ever had and bought the special, leather, furniture,black dye tubs. Well I wasnt old enough to use the leather i later found out ( doh!) but at least I had it to use when I go old enough.

So I was sitting around celebrating my 1 year anniversary of UO and decorating my house with kewl furniture I dyed with my tub. Well as it turned out I ran out of benches. My carpenter wasnt good enough and I had major rune library to finish so I hoped on a kal ort port to a local vendor mall to pick up a few. On my return a began collecting some wood to make some boxes. (I know this is a long story but this is how it will always play in my mind) I was out hacking trees when I was approuched by a guy riding on an ethy mount (they just came out i think) and offered to buy my furniture dye tub. Since I had just got it and had yet to fully enjoy it I said "no" The guy gave me a few offers which I ignored but I perked up when I heard him say "6 mil" I had to sit and think for a second. I purchased all my dye tubs at an online auction for 2mil for all 4! He was offering me 6 for one. In a panic I thought of collecting 6 mil buying the tubs again later and having an extra 2 mil to add onto what i could get for my house...dreams of a large marble flooded my head as they were around 6-8mil on greatlakes. He added me to his icq and we talked for a second. i wanted to make sure he wasnt a weirdo. Finally i wanted to make the deal. He told me on icq to meet him at the bank. I saw his character port out of my house. I quickly ran to the tub and unlocked it... ... ... ... ... and it disappeared... ... ... ... ...

I guy wearing all black appeared and walked out of the house and ported away. At that moment I noticed the guy who wanted to buy the tub went offline on icq. I called up a gm and screamed and yelled. They told me this was a "preventable theft" I had never heard of such a thing and never in my mind would I think people were this terrible in a game! I had never heard of how to prevent this or anything.

I soon learned of these "scammers" and started reguarding anyone trying to buy something in my house as a scam. This had been my first scam and wasnt my last but was the worst since dye tubs were still in there infancy and not many had them.

I later ran into the guy again and I got pretty heated pointing and calling him a theif and scammer infront of all brit. he explained he was suffering from juvenile arthritis and that he could barely move and was confined to a hospital bed so he deserved stealing from UO players and that I was quote "an A-Hole" because I was the only one to complain about it.

I never saw this guy again, but a few people told me stories that he was one of the most notorious scammers on Greal Lakes. He spent his entire time scamming new players and vets alike out of rares. From what I heard he would go around looking into houses for things he wanted. Most of the time he camped out waiting for the owner of a house to log on and unlock somthing.

Ever since then my house has been private...

Wow, some of these stories are pretty mad. I feel sorry for all your losses.

I've been very fortunate by comparison. I lost a lot of the black Orchish bows when my house decayed a good few years back. I only had two characters and no money back then, one of them an archer so I was upset at the time

Last week I lost my Boomstick due to forgetting to insure it.

Luckily thats it for me. Minors only

I just had a big loss. I was sitting around brit bank trying to sell a house on my wife's account and some guy opened up a gate to a collapsed house. So I run into gate to see if theres anything good. When I arrived there were already a lot of people. Most of the stuff had been picked over. I happen to be searching through a chest and found a basket within a basket within 1 and so on for about 4 or so picking up nice weps thoughout until i get to the last one which had 1 each of every runic hammer except val and several full bod books for smithing and tailoring. As soon as I got this stuff i ported out quick take it to my house and come back. Well as it turned out I forgot I was on my wife's account whos chars share a house with me (which is why im able to sell houses with her and still be co-owner at another) and that the stuff didnt get locked down and decayed as I went back to trying to sell the house I placed.


Although I didnt get these myself through filling constant bods I still feel the loss as Im sure all the hammers were worth a lot. I know there were a lot of hammers including ancient smithy hammer which are the same color as the val so even though I looked over the stuff I didnt do it that accuratly so there was a chance a val runic was in there but if there was I dont wanna know.

The only loss that comes to my head is just fruit baskets. I'm sure I've lost a big rare in the past, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

I DID laugh at all my guildies who, back when they had the scavenger hunt/race on Chessy, either sold their Purple Mongbat Earrings for 1mil or threw them away. There were only 17 on the shard. I logged into a character I hadn't used in a LONG time, and saw I was still wearing them. Checked the event rares pages....saw they were selling for 20-25 mil now. I got 20mil for mine.

Poor guildies....LOL

Ok, I had a 'tard moment today.

I was wayyyyyy over my house limit, because my vendors expired. So, I went and threw tons of armor and stuff that the guy who sold me the house left in some crates.

Didn't realize till I spoke to someone at the bank that I'd thrown away some old invuln. armor.

Yeah.

Lost a Bracelet of Healing yesterday..tried and died five times before giving up!

A b-b-b-black and white tattered p-p-p-painting. A f-f-f-friend that was quitting gave to me to watch over, and I in turn let another friend put it up in her house since I didn't use in my c-c-c-crib.

She left the game without telling me, and the next thing I know it's hanging in other people's houses over the last couple of years. Well, if it be the same one.

Taught me not to loan my stuff out that others give to me, and most of dat is stuff that isn't necessarily an arty, like that first nice sword I found off the ground in Vesper one Saturday morning when just a n-n-n-newb.

Seemed like it was Christmas day.

in my house, i put all my arty's rares, special items and whatever (deco, worthy items) in a bag, but forgot to secure !@! lost everything, lucky i still got good armor on and 6 mil in my bank
