Wintermoor suffers its 3rd and (final?) Loss

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Atlantic's Xanthar and his city of Wintermoor, but if you are, please read the news posted on Stratics a few days ago.

A lot of negative things are being said along the lines of, "You should have known better" type comments, but all negativity aside I personally must say..... Xanthar, I am so sorry for this final loss. I used to have one heck of a rares museum going myself on Atlantic years ago before I'd quit and Xanthar's Museum was my goal and he was my idol in a sense. This (possibly final) loss really hits home for me and I am sorry to hear that all the rares are finally gone. The old magic of UO is truly gone for me. And now hearing that my favorite rares museum in Atlantic is empty just goes to show that Ultima Online is no longer the game it once was. What a loss....

Xanthar, I wish you luck and hope you can recover some of the items and reestablish Wintermoor again somehow, some day.

Seems a live and learn situation to me. Of course it's a great loss but in the end it seems like Xanthar made more than a few mistakes and I think he should be blamed for the tragedy. It'd be interesting to see OSI's side of the events too.

Rule #1 in life is never trust another human being with your own vision. They will always !!!! it up and after a while, use it for their own gains. It's as if you started your own successful business, then went on holiday for 6 months and left it to your 16 year old nephew. How could you be surprised that it fell apart?

Also, I understand he wanted to keep it going, but if he'd left UO for months at a time trusting someone else to run his city, he was wrong to assume it would be completely safe. He should have dismantled the museum at least and started it back up when he had more time or will to run it again. To just leave something that valuable in almost a limbo state is appalling; especially if it's true that he put $10,000 into it.

The whole thing just seems a lesson in irresponsibility to me and misplaced trust

I have to agree with Pandajuice. I don't see this as EA/Mythics fault at all. If I had what I considered a $10,000 investment I'd be damned sure that A) My accounts were always paid up and I was the person dealing with any sell off. Anything else is asking for trouble. Especially in a "world" were scamming is a constant known thing.

I see that pretty much everyone agrees on this except for the actual people involved in that, yes what happened sucks, no it's not EA/Mythic's fault, and finally, watch who you trust with your "investments."

It's quite simple and to the point. Learn your lesson, don't repeat in the future.
