Test Results Back Finally

As most of you know, I take care of my sick mother. She's had lumps in her throat for a while now. She had one biopsy about two months ago and the results were inconclusive.

Today was the second biopsy, and the result was she does NOT have cancer. Whew!

However, she does have toxic multinoma goiter. After discussing the options, we have decided the best one is for her to have surgery. So she is going to have her entire thyroid removed. Hopefully this will all be done within a couple of months and she will be better.

Ah glad to hear it's not cancer

What're the side effects of having the thyroid removed?

She will have to be on thyroid meds for the rest of her life.

There are some possible compilcations from the surgery, but the chances are slim for any of them. If the parathyroids are screwed up and all have to come out, then she will have to take calsium too. She might have a problem with her voice box and go hoarse. The most severe is that her larnyx may close up involuntarily and she will have to get a permanent tracheotomy.
