I dated a guy once that was separated from his wife (no kids). Of course, I thought he was already divorced until a week into it, when he spilled the beans that he was still technically married but separated. They eventually got divorced.

LOL see, sadly that is a hugely valid answer!!! I've dated two different guys that didn't tell me until we were already dating that 1) was still married but separated, and 2) was still with his girlfriend of a year but they were in the process of breaking up.

Having been married and attempting to get divorced for over 6 years I can understand/have been the married partner. I have also dated men in the process... but they have clearly been in the process of divorce and I was knowledgeable of the situation before we began dating.
