Hotkey bars

What are they? I've been reading about them in the updates, but I have no idea what they are...

Basically a "softkey" set up.

Each bar has a set of assignable macro type buttons and you will have multiple bars, so it is a way to swap what key does what fairly quickly.

At least, thats how I understand them...

it very basic. It is a row of boxes (number can vary) either horizonatal/vertical on your screen. They basically act like marcos, except that you can not only have spells, specials etc in them but also bandaids, potions, tools

Its a way to orgainze better. Lets say you have your spell icons out around your screen. With hotkey bars you can drag the spells to the bar and instead of clicking on the icon you now just hit the number associated with the box on the bar.

If you have every played diablo (or any similiar game) this would be familiar.

There are a few pictures of this posted here (I think) and over at stractics.

Or you could go look at screen shots of Warhammer online. They are using the same system for that game and the screen shots are clearer. Just be aware it will not be exactly the same.

Okay, I think I get it a little. UO is the only game I've ever played so nothing to compare it to. I've seen the pictures too, but never really got what those boxes were for. Thanks for the explanation Warsong.

Warsong's nailed it on the head. It's nice for using potions and bandaids etc, because you don't have to find them in your inventory and dbl click them, you just smash down the appropriate key.

Not a problem, been addicted to this dang game, nearly ten years now. And if I can help new people enjoy/understand the game better...well it is a bonus for me as it means new people will stick around and my addiction can continue.

Do you assign the number to the macro/hotbar location or is it predefined?

I hope one can make own macros (Icons) to drag to the hotkeybar as in DAoC.

Id imagine that the predefined keys would be the Function keys, but you would be able to reassign them...I only use the Function keys for verbal commands; Bank, I wish to secure this, etc.

Id have to imagine that you could do that Gnomy. Im hoping too that the macro functionality gets a bit of a bump from the 2d...
