Lightbulb Tamer Advance Character Tips

So you want to own a puppy? Want to have a friend who puts themselves in harm's way for you? BUT you want to do it quickly? This will set you on the path.

*Note, you either have to have resources to acquire some special items, or a VERY good guild, like UO:F*

People who use this guide can tame and own a major pet (CU, Hiryu, Reptalon, Dragon, White Wyrm, Mare, Bake, etc) within the first hour.

This guide is intended ONLY to put the Advance Character template into immediate use, and does not include information on raising the taming skill.

Items
Key items you will need are:
1) Birds of brit library talisman. Can't beat it, and a MUST after Pub 46! .Price 700k on Lake Austin (thank you Beasty Boy)

2) ring/brace with a total of 16 taming and 16 lore (This can be a mite more difficult, needing taming AND lore on each piece).

3) 110 taming power scroll

4) 110 Lore scroll

Pub 46 Update
Due to the nature of the changes from Pub 46, you MUST have the minimum lore and taming to control the target pet. For a CU, you will experience MAX control at 106 taming, 106 lore. So that is the new target of the guide. As seen above, with the talisman included, you will need really obscenely priced jewels in order to get right out and be a tamer.
Use this calculator from Noxin to figure out your preferred lore /taming mix

But all is not lost! You can make up a GOOD portion of the skill requirement in a matter of hours.
We will focus on animal lore, as that is easiest to raise.
Method:
Get two horses
Get in a guild, OR go to felluca, just outside a guard zone
Get a GOOD supply of bandages
Tell horse A to attack horse B
Heal each (best with a UO Assist macro targetted to each pet)
Stop when your lore is around 95. This should take a couple of hours. If you are going peace tamer, this is a good time to try to raise music simultaneously.

Template
First, you have to start a new character. You will want to consider your end template. Select two major skills that are NOT part of the advance character taming template. Some examples are listed below.
Preferred race / sex is female elf. They get to use all the best pets in game. ( there are multiple ways to do this, as long as the character is below 300 skill points. You could strip all but two or 3 critical skills from a character using soul stones, then use the advance character, but this is not the normal case)

Peace or Discord tamer:
Start the character to advance with 50 peace and 50 music (or discord).

Mage tamer
50 eval int
50 any other skill. For example, chiv ( this will be reduced as you gain in other skills, BUT until then , remove curse gives you the ability to remove mortal strike from pets, a major plus.)

Archer tamer
50 Archery
50 tactics or anatomy.
- TIP: Lower magery to make skill room for chivalry after making the character. Chiv will be your primary means of healing yourself, and secondary means of healing pet.

These are NOT part of the advance character template, so you will be 100 skill points ahead of development.

In Game
The template stats are a little odd (they gave the tamer highish dex for some reason), but that is easily rectified.
Advance Tamer template:
85 Taming
85 Animal Lore
85 Veterinary
70 Magery
70 Meditation
80 Strength, 80 Intelligence, 55 Dexterity

STATS
Stats are listed by preferred weight. Recommended stats based on 225 stat cap. Add any stat scroll bonus to the highest preferred stat.

Peace or Discord tamer:
STR (120)(to haul all the l33t loot)
INT (90) (primary offense spell is mindblast, which is int based for damage)
Dex (15)15 (vet is NOT dex based, it is two seconds by default.)

Mage tamer
INT (120)(100+)(to cast more, like DOOM or Peerless)
STR (90)(To haul that L33t loot)
dex (15) (vet is NOT dex based, it is two seconds by default.)

Archer tamer
Dex (115) (Shoot faster)
STR (85)(to haul all that L33t Loot)
INT (25) (45 mana with elf)

Further polishing
Take about 4 hours to raise music to 80, at which point you can start area peace for simultaneous gains in music and peace. Take about 14 more hours to GM both. Suggest that you use Song Woven Spell Mantle to help out with gains, until you are at GM. While training with GM music, LOCK music so you can get faster peace gains.

First, CAUTION. DO NOT GO OVER 200 SKILL if you are going to use adv char tokens AFTER raising peace and music. If you DO go over, pull extra skill off using soul stones FIRST.

As clarification, raise music to 80 (minimum) first by double clicking an instrument. To macro this (2D, I cannot use KR), go to the options tab, select macro. Then assign a key. Below, in the first drop down, select "use last object". Then hit apply.

Now all you have to do is hold that button down, and you will gain in music. Since there is no skill timer for just using the instrument, this is the fastest way to raise music. You will also see gains when using the peace skill (below), but nowhere near as fast.

Once you are at 80 music (this gives you a decent chance to succeed music check and gain from peace), you will need to set this macro (area peace)
Use skill / peace
Wait for target
Target self

On successful attempts, you have to wait 5 seconds to use the skill. For failed attempts, you have to wait 12 seconds. Area peace will take you all the way to 120 peace.

Now, other advice.
- DO NOT raise music over 100 until you have reached your target peace skill. Music over 100 give a bonus to sucess chance of any barding skill, thus making it harder to gain. Best bet is to not eat a power scroll for music until peace or other bard skill is done.

- DO NOT use a GM instrument, it increases success chance, thus making it harder to gain. Buy your instruments from a carpenter (there is one in luna).

- DO use jewels to get to 100 music. You will still gain music even if you are at visible cap due to the extra skill points. Just gain a tad slower, but the focus here is getting PEACE raised.

- If you are UNDER 50 peace, you can use jewels to raise you up to 50. This will help you gain faster. Once you hit 50-60 show real skill, take the jewels off.

Raising Vet and Lore
Take about 8 hours to raise vet and animal lore by buying two horses, and having them attack each other (in fell, or if you are in guild). You can double up here, and set a UOA macro to use (item type) musical instrument, to raise music, at the same time you are healing pets.

In three days or less, you will have a useable tamer, with good skills.

First of all, excellent post; exactly what i was looking for.

Would you mind elaborating on why Female elf is the best ? What is it they can tame that others can't?

What advantages does a female elf have over a male elf?

What advantages does elf have over human?

Some especific examples would be great as Id prefer to go Male elf.

Also on a different note, but while i have your attention...

I think I've decided to go Peace/Tamer.

I'd like to be able to tame my own pets as well as hold my own soloing in dangerous places for loot. Would peace taming fit my playstyle? I just really want to be able to to the high end stuff (not necessarily solo).

First, apologies for missing the reply. been busy lately!

Now, I think we answered your first question about race and sex. So on to peace tamer ( my personal favorite).

While not the MOST powerful bard skill for tamers hunting solo (that would be discord against one monster, provo if you routinely hunt in doom or champ spawns), it is easily the most versatile.

You will be able to solo jsut about anything (I solo paragon balrons, bonde deamon, paragon ancient wyrms and all of the doom mini-bosses) on my peace tamer (Thom).
Advantages
- Walk through heavy spawn areas unscathed with area peace. If you ALSO work up your honor virtue, this will make it REALLY simple to get through heavy spawn areas to the sweet spot.
- Lure creatures away from the sweet spot. You have three option while luring creatures away, invis, area peace, target peace.
- Target peace, pets take less damage
- Target peace, makes taming high end monsters SOOOOO much easier. And you do not take a stat/skill penalty for peace taming like you do for paralyze taming (10% skill/stat loss).
- Even creatures that you cannot DIRECTLY target peace will be momentarily lulled with area peace. Great for daring reverse forward progress (retreats )

Disadvantages
- Creatures with 160 barding difficulty cannot reliably be peaced, and if you DO succeed, it lasts for about a millisecond.
- Higher end tameables are hard to peace and tame, even with 120/120 music/peace. Usually, you only get one tame off before you have to re-peace.
- Peace is absolutely useless against most Peerless. They don't even area peace well.

However, with a good suit, and some good tactics, you can overcome the few instances your peace is useless and still come out on top.

Re: Tamer Advance Character Tips

If you'd like to add it to the guide feel free, but I thought I'd let you know what these cost on Lake Austin me and would likely cost someone else

Library Talisman: Birds of Brittania - $700,000
Taming Bracelet +10 - $35,000 per
Taming Power Scroll 115 - $200,000

It's a great method to instantly get you to 110 Animal Taming.

Re: Tamer Advance Character Tips

So, I need help with the vet and lore trick mentioned in this guide. I just spent 1+hours working with two horses attacking one another, with about .5 in gains on vet and .1 in gains on lore. Is this normal to expect with 85.x skill in both areas? Or have they changed something/am I missing something?

Anyway, help would be greatly appreciated!
