I have my taming skill boosted with jewels (it's at 86.2 real, 110 with jewels).

Should I train it with jewels on or off? Does it matter?

Depends on what you want to tame. Remeber you will only gain on sucess tames so tame an animal that you will have a 70-80% chance of sucess.

I havn't trained Taming since the whole jewelry thing came about. I would use Dip's method of training skills since you have the jewels to take you to to 110. Simply remove all jewelery and get your gauranteed skill gain each day. then apply jewels to play.

It matters in a couple of ways.

Since you are jeweled to 110, but can still gain that skill, your gains will be as frequent as if you WERE at 110.

As we all know from crafting, gains at 85 skill come MUCH more frequently than at 110.

Also, jewels will get you past "walls". Stuck at 90.3 after 100 tames? Jewel up to 100, tame something harder. OR unjewel.

Another aspect is getting your skill to match tame spawn. Since this not an intuitive expression, an example would be:
56-60 real skill. THis is one of the hardest taming levels, not for gains, but for finding dense spawn to tame. Solution is to jewel up to 70 and tame everything walking on ice island. Same with removing jewels. Match lowered skill to densest spawn.

So in theory, if I got bored with bulls, I could jewel up to where Unicorns gave me a 50-60% success rate, and tame them to work my skills (and get zoo donations at the same time, w00t!)

Yup, keeping in mind that gains will be slower.

The Unis is where I was working Taming for a while, jeweled to 106-ish. For some reason, the Grimswind Unicorns have been all kinds of buggered of late. ometimes they wont spawn for days at a time...
