Agreed. It's nothing like any Buddha form I've seen. That's like seeing a statue with long hair and a beard, and calling it "a Jesus statue"

I can't imagine any kind of Buddha would carry a weapon

I'd say it looks more like a monk aswell, though warrior seems concievable too (and that's the name I've seen it most commonly under).

I dunno why people call them that either but I hope that is what the OP was talking about, I have heard lots of folks call them that.


Edit this is considered a "famous" buddah statue so maybe that's where it came from?
