yes its crazy- stupid and damn right annoying- i mark 100 runes- they only cost 15g each for god sake and drop em at the banks- come 20 minutes later i go look and the runes are still there but with another shop on em!! WHY FOR GODS SAKE!! buy some and mark your own- its a silly circle that needs to be stopped! if u cant afford to buy 20 runes for your shop or big mal!!! yes they do it too then ask me for 300g - jeepers id rather give u the gold then u steal and remark all my shop runes- so another can come by and do the same to the runes u have just overwritten- CAN US EUROPA SHOP OWNERS HAVE A TRUCE ON THIS PLEASE!!

Its the competition spirit, No you cant really have a truce since there will always be people trying to make players come to their shop instead of yours. Its easier just to get someone to gate to your shop.
This issue is the same on most shards but the shards that are mainly Luna based you don't see it as a big problem because its not really bothering that many other shops that you have a shop that you want to promote by dropping runes.

I remember one shop owner, using his thief character to steal a rune to a persons shop as he was gating, and quickly dump it. He was guardwhacked, but he had another rune in his pack of the same name. Guess where it went? That's right, his shop. The other shop owner continued gating with the rune he got off the guys corpse.

If that isn't true competition, I don't know what is.

To the OP: Once a rune hits the ground it's public domain, many people will use them and recall/gate to your shop, others will replace them with their shop... others *cough* will just pick them up for their own use because it's cheaper than buying them!

Competition? I like to call a spade a spade, and not try to disguise it as anything else but just plain inconsiderate and rude.(Since this is Stratics I will not use the more ..direct terms.)

I find it typical of many a shady shop owner, as I have not seen any of the more serious Merchants on Europa do this. If I catch one , whether that is my runes or anyone else's I usually go for the throat right away, and stay clear of the shop altogether afterwards. I just don`t like the attitude that behavior displays.

On a shopping-happy shard as Europa there are plenty of customers for all shops, and if you have trouble getting customers it might be a better move to check your vendors instead.

Too many runes in one spot? Then move to another or wait, or drop your runes anyway. No need to remove anything.

I had a rune given to me once for a shop that later was redesigned ,so the old location became blocked.When I tried to remark the a new location for the vendor,I got a message the rune could not be marked.

There seems to be a way of marking a rune that prevents others remarking them .
I have no idea how this works ,but maybe if anyone knows and posts here ,it might just be the solution you are needing .

I guess the world is coming to an end...

Please stop littering Sosaria with your vender runes. Its tacky and very unprofessional as a merchant.

Hehe I admit, I've helped keep Britannia clean by picking up runes and marking over them to fill my runebook with hunting spots.

Something similar happened to me and it is very annoying very annoying.
I had marked runes for my Guilds Auction and placed them at every moongate I could think of. Well low and behold some one thought it would be oh so funny to take them all . Well it didnt stop there, when I noticed that someone had taken all of the runes I decided to make another batch of them. The same thing happened and the person doing it thought it was oh so hilarious.The person responsible was using stealth and watching my guild mates and I as we tried to figure out what was happening because the runes would desapear before our eyes. Why do people do that kind of thing

Runes left on the ground are a good source of income for new players, they sell for 13gp each!

I'll take the shop runes. I visit the shops even too! lol
If I like the shop, I keep the rune for it. If not, I just hang on to the rune to remark it later at some point.

Really, the only options I see are either 1: just go gate to your shop or 2: have your vendors/auction well known enough that people will want to keep your runes.

I've always used ground runes for my own marking. I think every book I carry on every character is filled with runes from Luna bank floor. I find it to be quicker than going into a mage shop and buying them. Its part of the game and vendors need to get used to it. They litter the floor, be prepared to lose them.

If you're in Luna anyway, it would actually be quicker to buy a batch off of the mage that is right there than walk around picking up every single rune...

Other towns, not so, but Luna is an awful example if your motivation is to save time!

I drop runes for my shop, and it's a fact of life that some will get stolen. Cost of advertising. No need to get my panties in a bunch over it. It happens in real life too - people tear down your advertising flyers or post their own up over yours. People throw your expensive advertising (aka "junk mail") in the recycle bin without even reading it... it's just the way it is.

As a player, I grab one of every shop rune I can find and check out the shop. If it's a good shop, I'll drop it in my vendor runebook. If not, I keep it and remark it.
