Re: Good Question

Ok. I agree with everyone about active members. BUT what IS an active member? I think we need a hard definition to avoid future complications. Otherwise the leadership will be making arbitrary decisions that could lead to disgruntled applicants. Sorry to be a pain, but I've been in that leadership hotseat, as I'm sure many of you have, and the smallest thing can sometimes be exaggerated into a major war. Just trying to look ahead a little.

Re: Good Question

Thanks Rascal, it should help.

*hands bottle back to Rascal*

You'll need it for the next time that *bop* comes about.

Good points Eowyna, something needs to be set in stone and not too broad. I think we know what happens when some people have a different understanding of one thing while others view it as another.

Re: Good Question

I'm not a leader type, more of a "hang around" kind of person, so my thought process on the matter is something like this: If you made an effort to introduce yourself to the boards and become at least the minimum bit active in whatever discussions and become acquainted with the regulars on the board, then you would eventually find your way to the UO:F forums and ask to join. To me it seems the UO:F forums is out of the mainstream of the general forums enough to be under the radar of spammers, scammers, and the general lot of misfits, and geared more towards people who are truly into the game and are just looking for cool people to hang out with, which, in my short experience with UO:F thus far, has been just that.

*Wiggles Bunny Tail* I hope your head feels better Dip.

Eowyna and XKtuluX both make good points. I would also suggest a ROC like UOF and zero tollerance for trolls & scammers.

While I agree that appears to be true NOW, if the guild becomes THE absolutely coolest place to be since Ice Island, the deluge of jerks could be fast and furious.

I'm a fan of very definite rules that, by their nature, allow for necessary flexibility. For example (and I'm just making this up off the top of my head, so don't consider it well thought out!) - I would suggest defining an "active" UOF poster to be someone who meets both a registration length requirement (such as, 30 days) and a post frequency requirement (such as, 2x per week).

I'm not sure those are the appropriate numbers, but as illustration, it takes care of scammers who might just jump on and try to join the guild (if a scammer is going to spend an entire month posting, he/she is VERY patient! I'd expect most people to just move on to the next group they could more easily exploit). Also, in that month's time, if someone is posting a couple times a week or more, guild leadership should be able to get a feel for what kind of person/player he/she is.

That rule is flexible enough to allow for people new to the boards (like me, since I just found you guys in November!) but strict enough to let everybody get to know each other a bit before allowing a player into the guild.

My $.03 (adjusted for inflation!)

I'd be glad to help write up any kind of draft/document/etc of the guild charter/rules/etc. I love taking a ton of info/input and crafting it into cohesive documents (yeah, I used to love writing term papers in school! Whacked, I know!)

Re: Good Question

I like Kit's idea, sounds like reasonable requirements. Like she stated, a lot of scammers wouldn't stick out a month just to stir things up, unless they had some kind of crazy vendetta.
