Question This is something I have never understood to well.

This is something I have never understood to well.
1.…A player town is simply a group of players houses that we as players call a town? Or is there more to it than that?

2.…GM locked down item? Honestly I have never seen a GM willing to help with a problem. How does one get them to lock down something for you?

Also if you would, tell me if this typeset is readable. When I posted I had a black background the letters were white and of normal size.

Re: This is something I have never understood to well.

The text is perfectly normal and readable, yes.

Player towns generally are just a bunch of houses that players choose to call a town. Some older player towns may have been acknowledged by seers/GMs and thus been blessed and had some special things locked down and placed in them. For instance some player towns have their own bank or stables or somesuch.

That might answer the question about GM locked down stuff too, but if there's more to it, someone else can maybe elaborate.

You must have had bad luck... I had an awesome GM he came out like 3 times the same day... He might have thought I was a moron but he still nontheless helped me out.

The first time he came out it to help someone out from under a house plot that I placed at an IDOC. Somehow he got stuck under the structer =( I felt bad but no way I could lift it with out loosing that spot. WAY to many people there that day so he came out for that.

Second one is not only did someone get stuck under but a ton of items so he came out to lift them ALL out from under the house plot to the MIDDLE of my plot because there was alot of people hidding and hoping to yoink all that stuff... yet another game fluke.

Third is that some of those items were still locked down so he had to come out and unlock all those. It took a LONG time to sort through all the stuff so hehe. Yes he was amazing to come out and help me I appericated him assisting me too or all that stuff except maybe the locked down ones would fade away.

My purpose of being there at that IDOC WAS the house no way I was going to loose it even if there was millions worth of stuff under house... I'd loose it before the house any ole day but lucky he was able to assist me.

That was both a good day and a bad day =*( I will not get further detail... on the "bad" part... that really got me sad. Oh well hehe all is better now ^_^

So I can not see why a GM couldn't just come out to lock something down, they seem pretty cool down at the station.

GM locked down things don't really exist. You are referring to Seer Lock down in Player Run towns/establishments. Like mentioned before, player towns are just groups of homes that a guild/community declares as their town. There is no ingame or out of game suppourt from EA for this. Seers use to (and I have heard of no recent instances of this) keep an eye on good towns/establishments and reward with lock downs that game did not offer (also, at the beginning lockdowns were not available and some taverns had to re decorate every night. The Seer lock downs greatly helped these groups.) If you are looking for some examples, I can give you easy directions on Catskills to see some.

Re: This is something I have never understood to well.

To my knowledge, GM's seldom lock down things in player towns anymore. They used to before we were able to do this for ourselves--in establishments that had a reputation for catering to the community on a long term basis. That's why some of these old legacy buildings are so special. This happened even before the seer program was initiated.

And a player-run town is sometimes just an accumulation of player homes that they choose to call a town. However, one that is recognized as such by a large segment of the shard population usually has something special about it that attracts people other than the residents. I can think of things such as public taverns, fight arenas, auction houses and player-run event locations. The good towns tend to be gathering places for many rather than just the owners of the buildings.

RMS Carpathia,

You got extremely Lucky, GM's do not do much if any for anyone. I've called for their services only a few times with major questions & I always get a msg. I can't believe you got a good GM. I've never had customer service from any of them ever. I also know none of my friends and guildmates have either. I'm very happy you had one help you that is wonderful

Each time I call on a GM I get a message also... I end up having to email through the website and wait 48 hours for a reply. Something should be done for more in-game assistance... certainly would be more helpful then waiting for a response email after waiting in game all that time for a msg...

Re: This is something I have never understood to well.

Through my own personal experience, back in the days of old, GMs were everywhere. They were so bored they would roam around the UO world disguised as someone else, or completely invisible looking for people exploiting or doing something that would deem a ban. They would throw you in jail and you would have to plead your case to them. Oh, and GM's participated in events all the time as well, even disguising themselves as monsters in some quests. In any case, my experience with them now is none. They never show up when I page, and to my knowledge, stuff that you used to get banned for, such as macroing or exploiting something in game, you don't get banned for anymore.

Sad development that..

As for them locking stuff down. On europa player run towns has existed long time and haven't got anything locked down, like Grd (the guardsmen militia) on europa, they have been about since 2000 (i think) and haven't got any of those stuff like bank or stable (then again it's not far away but still. and i might be wrong too )

Re: This is something I have never understood to well.

Oh, sorry i got off track. GM's only help player run towns if you show enough of an effort to make it popular. I've only seen them help player run towns back in the day when events were revolved around those towns. Seers and counselors would confer with players and create events. Then it would go to GM's and they would help out as best as they could. Nowadays, I don't think they have the man power or desire to help anyone do anything player run, though GM's are people too, and if you find one in a good mood some random day, you might be able to get help, like Carpathia did.
