GM's allow Hate Groups in UO now?

On an east coast shard *cough* Catskills *cough cough* there is a guild with the abbr [KKK] while the guild name isnt Ku Klux Klan, yall know thats exactly what he was going for when he made the guild... hes been paged on multiple times by me & by my guildies we even did the little 'page as harassment' thingy & targeted the player jsut like the gm asked us to do... yet he still runs around the game... ppl get suspended/banned over lesser things all the dang time, im not sayin he should be, but he needs to change his guild abbr bc KKK is a well known hate group... its almost as bad as someone making a guild abbr [Nazi]

Didn't we have an increase in the montly fees the last time around to be able to provide more support, a.k.a more GM"s ingame. now they seem to be all replaced by an automated message queue that spits out dirbble that has nothing to do with the help request you sent.

Perhaps if the name wasn't allowed to be created in the first place this might not have happened, but then that would of been a dev job would it not ?

I just don't get it, what is it with people who intentionally go online to try and piss others off with stunts like this. Like 99% of all offensive names in game are completely intentional and the person knows full well what they're doing, yet they just go ahead with it thinking it's a riot and claim ignorance once caught.

Should at least have the testicular fortitude to accept the consequences and ditch the whining (not particularly related to this case, dunno if there was whining, but in general).

I remember a guy complaining because a GM turned his name from the vaguely anti-semetic(?sp) one that he had chosen to "Daisy" or something equally feminine. His point was that he should have been given the coice of what his new name was...

Its people like these that should have their name, address, and picture posted in a place of prominence on the main UO website as far as Im concerned.

You want to purport a feeling loathed by a great many people? Then you should have to face the consequences...

Well, the important part in all this is that the pages sent in were taken seriously, and action was taken, before and without the cries on U'all. If it was not to some peoples' satisfaction in that it was not instantaneous, I can only say this:

Ultima Online, the staff and the franchise itself have suffered _hugely_ in the past from people in the real world pointing a finger and crying "OFFENSIVE!"

It was just that situation that led to GameStop taking EA to court over the in-game use of the name "Zog" during the Seer run Zog Cabal scenario. GameStop insisted the name "zog" was some off reference to an anti-semetic acronym. GameStop pulled all copies of UO fromt heir shelves, took EA to court, tied themselves up for half a year(?) and became the joke of the gaming/game store world. The damage was dealt though, to all UO players.

And all because some moron at GameStop just had to have a witch hunt.

So no, I don't blame the UO staff for taking their time in these matters. In fact I think it shows professionalism on their part.

Did this person need to be banned or have action taken against them? Absolutely. Undeniably. But these things should never always be immediate given what I've written above. I do wonder though, were the people paging truly offended? Or was it a case of "Let's get someone banned!"

Again, hats off to EA and the staff.

There was a player who had decided to quit runnning around the Luna bank the other day using the "N" word, he wanted to get his account banned to ensure he could never return.

I was wondering about how offended they were too. I just never get that worked up over words. hit me in the face I'll be offended, give yourself a stupid name in a game and I'll just laugh at what an idiot you are! Believe me you are not going to upset me by making a fool out of yourself.

however the name and actions were inappropriate and needed to be stopped. So my hat is also off to EA and the staff.

I just like the fact that it was taken care of before the thread was even started. sounds like someone was trying to stir things up and spread a little hate of their own.

Yeah. People were saying things like 'maybe the guild name means Kind, Karing, Knights' and other fun stuff like that. You know when you make a name like that it is going to be a problem. (unless...maybe...the player was from overseas and has never heard of the KKK....probably not)

There is no excuse to complain if you get in trouble after some idiotic behavior.
