| Is it legal to kill land monsters from a boat? source taken from UO.UHALL
A player asks :-
Is it an acceptable tactic to kill monsters that spawn on land from a boat? I helped an archer do this and felt a little uncomfortable about it.
Thanks in advance
No.
The monster must have a way to damage you...
So if it is a spellcaster yes.
If it is a berserker no. and
Yes it is legal to kill monsters from a boat. I don't know what nonsense other people are posting here. and *rolls eyes*
I can't believe you are actually debating if this is legal or not. Yeesh.
Its legal already, get over it. and I was just getting ready to post about this.
If it is legal, it shouldnt be.
Its not enough that your an archer that wont get hit, if your an archer who doesnt suck.
Let it be known, If im on my swordsman or MY archer, I will take every last kill away from that person who is using boat gimp tactics.
I even had one jackass tell me to go get my own berserker. I promptly took it a few steps away with my SWORDSMAN, got loot rights, then told him how much he sucks at UO.
Pretty sad. and then we had two posts from the developers, one being Silvani, rarely seen to post on the forums. Silvani Quote:
No.

| This has always felt a bit stupid to me. If you're clever and come up with a tactic that keeps you alive and minimizes risk, isn't that a good thing? Why do smart tactics have to take a back seat when put up against bad AI?
Creatures with no ranged ability should have the sense to run away after being damaged a certain amount with no chance to retaliate.

The rule they are using is that if you can gain with no risk it is illegal. I read it and thought it meant skill gain. I didn't think for a hunting tactic it would be illegal.
It's not really a big deal I don't see what all the fuss is about really. Seems odd that boat hunting would be illegal but champ spawn ghost spy-cams are legal. In fact a Dev (don't remember who) said it was very creative.
By the way I've never done it. never thought of it...it seems very creative to me.
People only complain during an event/scenario about things like this. That's why we still have the horribly nerfed EV's.

Back during the savage-Orc wars. People sat on boats attacking them all the time. Even had gms get involved over whose boat was parked next to the land and how they got moved or not moved

Just look around vesper, everyone leaves their boats unlocked for the Archers to pick away at the Ophids. I personally think its a cheap cop out way to fight, but hey if you want to go that route, so be it. You're the one who has to live with yourself..hehe.. But honestly, I don't agree that people are doing this, when armsmen are standing there right next to the fight taking risk and showing..well, this is a family forum, but you get what I mean..

I take my archer to Pap......I dont use a boat. I either fight or flee *GM RUNNER*, I was just stating the fact you never know anymore what you can or cant do.. I have a problem with rules changing in the middle of the game.

Does it matter how you kill it as long as you kill it? If the monster cant damage you, whose fault is it? The individuals who thought up the monster?

Now I can tell you what is 100% guaranteed illegal, is taking a monster ON a boat and luring it away, as in taking a champ, say Lord Oaks, and luring him onto a boat and killing him out there.

| Re: Is it legal to kill land monsters from a boat? Here is the rule located in the EA support site.
This is pretty absurd. If it's illegal, then the devs need to find a way to prevent this using game mechanics, not a silly rule located *somewhere* in the EA support site. Whenever the devs find an exploit, they employ some fix in order to prevent players from doing this. Well according to EA support, this is considered exploiting. Where's the fix?
