Question College Schedule - Nursing

I need some help guys. I’m trying to get all my pre-req’s completed in two years so I can begin the Registered Nurse Program. The college I want to go to basically said I need a 3.5 GPA or higher to get into the Nursing Course. It’s a huge waiting list; they take the best of the best etc. So of course I’m worried I’m going to over load myself, I’m working full time & there will be a wedding some were in the middle of all that. So anyway, can anyone offer me any advice? The problem I’m running into, I need to have Math 83 completed before I can start any Biology classes, so I will have to take a Biology class during a mini-mester, does anyone think that’s possible? Thanks!!

Re: College Schedule - Nursing

If I were you, I would try and do speech in the summer, in a shorter semester. Then again, that's only because I hated speech class. Sociology got kinda involved from what I remember, so it may be easier in a longer semester.

Re: College Schedule - Nursing

Heh a tip for keeping yourself amused in speech.... choose weird topics when you have the option. For instance, we had to give a factual instructional speech, so I picked how to behead, pluck, and butcher a chicken to get it ready to eat. Just watching the reactions of some people made it all worthwhile.

Re: College Schedule - Nursing

All of the classes you listed are pre-reqs?

I find it a bit odd that they require Bio 110 before A&P...Id be very careful who you talk to as far as advisors go. If you meet with an advisor whose not specifcally related to your major, they can steer you wrong. Best way to go is to get a printed paper from the Director of Nursing...

Also, watch out for Statistics. Ive never had to take it, but it has been known to throw people for a loop. Same goes for Micro.

Smile Re: College Schedule - Nursing

These are the classes I need for the Nursing A.S.

It says:
Quote:
* BIOL 110 may be a prerequisite for BIOL 220. The option to challenge or receive a waiver for BIOL 110 is available. Students planning to enter the nursing program should address this alternative with an academic advisor, case manager or counselor.
I guess I can try and study & challenge it.

Kettle you are so right about the Advisor! I sat down with one for all of 2 minutes and she said to get the Min. 4 pre-reqs out of the way & then apply! Lucky for me I attented a open house last summer & they said that since its so hard to get into the program, they're taking students who've completed all their pre-reqs first!

Thanks for the heads up Kettle & Adri on Statistics & Sociology

Quote:
MATH 153 – 4 Credits
Introduction to Statistical Methods

Develops an understanding of statistical methodology and use of critical judgment in analyzing data sets; covers descriptive statistics, introduction to probability, normal and binomial distributions, hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, regression and correlation, chi-square distribution, and introduction to ANOVA. A statistical computer package, e.g. Minitab, is introduced as a computational tool.
I think that one would be the class I thought you meant. The one you listed in your original post *should* be a bit more broad, which will be very nice for you! As much as I like Math in general, I dislike Math classes...
