Well two actually

Yep feel like a right proper 'Newbie'

Ok the thing is I have aquired a book on stonecrafting and one on glassblowing.
The relivant Caracters placed the books in their backpacks and absorbed the nessesary knowledge.

But what now?
How do I craft and mine the stone?
How do I go about glassblowing?

As far as I can see (might need the white stick again Snowy) there has been no change to anything in my pack to assist me in these new skills.
I thought that the information would be inside the books and you read the information as from a jounal.....they just vanished and it said 'I had absorbed the knowledge'.

Any helpers out there?

Re: Well two actually

From what I remember, at least for stone mining, if you're a GM miner, you simply mine and at random, chunks of stone pop into your backpack.

Re: Well two actually

Thanks Adam..

I should have said that on the mining side I thought that that would be the thing that happened..... It's more on the building side.

I presume that the different coloured stones I have seen when out mining are associated with the ore found at the same spot.

GLASSBLOWING (from UO.COM Playguide: Skills)

A glassblower works with sand and heat to create items that are not only functional, but artistic as well. This skill can only be learned by Grandmaster Alchemists.

Unlike most skills, Glassblowing can be considered an offshoot of Alchemy. It does not require extra skill points, aside from those you put into your Alchemy skill.

If you are a Grandmaster Alchemist, and you wish to learn the art of Glassblowing, you must acquire a book entitled "Crafting Glass with Glassblowing". You can purchase this book from Gargoyle shopkeepers in the Ilshenar facet for around 10,000 gold.

Double-click the book to read it. Once you have read the book, it will be destroyed; however, the knowledge of glassblowing will remain with your character.

The Tools

Blow Pipe - Used in conjuntion with sand to create glass objects. Blow pipes can wear out from continued use.
Sold by: Gargoyle Shopkeepers (Ilshenar)
Crafted? No

Sand - Sand can be mined from any beach.
Sold by: Not sold
Crafted? No.

Note: In order to mine sand, you must be a GM miner and you must have read the related skill book on mining sand that you can purchase from Gargoyle shopkeepers in Ilshenar.

To mine for sand:
Place a shovel or pickaxe in your inventory.
Double-click the shovel or pickaxe.
Target the beach.
If you are successful and have space available in your inventory, a pile of sand will appear in your inventory.

Using Glassblowing

Once you have a blow pipe and some sand, you're reading to start creating items. To begin, double-click on the blow pipe. If you have some sand in your inventory a menu of craftable items will be displayed.

Re: Well two actually

Dont you have to click on the shovel or pickaxe and select stone, sand or etc? Next time I find a crafter or miner in fel, I will ask him or her, before "pk'ing" him or her and scattering their inventory all over the place.

Re: Well two actually

Yes, there is a menu that comes up when you single click your digging tool, and you set it to mine your choice. It will not mine ONLY stone, you will get some ore with it. But you can set it to mine ONLY ore. Thanks.. I missed that.
