![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ok girls (& guys...) I’m getting my hair cut/styled this weekend. I need help! I have really thick curly/wavy hair. I almost always have it pulled back because I have an afro when it’s down, and unlike most girls I lack the ability to properly blow dry my hair straight. If I go to bed with my hair wet I wake up with all these messy ringlets because I’ve never trained the curls, I don’t care for all my hair to be all over my neck and face, especially now that its so hot! I’m starting to get all these fly aways and since it’s so humid they’re curling. I’m a hot mess! I decided its time I go get a real hair cut. Ok so here’s a picture of my face… don’t mind the sweat I was working out! I kind of wanted to cut my hair some what like this other picture because its low maintenance but I don’t want to look like the Pillsbury dough girl. My hair right now is around the bottom of my shoulder blades. Any ideas? :embarasse ![]() ![]() |

| Guest | Re: I need hair help girls! ok if you have wavy hair and you get that cut invest in a flat iron and really good conditioner your hair isnt gonna lay flat w/o help ant thats a straight style so you'll have to run a flat iron through it every time you wash it so what you may think is easy to maintain may not be i would go into a good stylist and talk with them and see if they can suggest a style that may work better for you :pjust my opinion i know ive had cuts that didnt work because i liked the pic i got a razor cut 3 years ago and the only way i could get look right was use a flat iron and that was a pain in my rear! |

If your hair is that curly, and you get it cut like the pic, it is going to go POOF and you will end up looking like a q-tip. Especially if you can't get it to straighten out a bit while it is heavy, now. Ask your stylist and see what she thinks. I've seen some really cute short, curly hair styles. Maybe they can help you find something that doesn't take a ton of work. ![]() We are all broken and wounded in this world. Some choose to grow strong at the broken places. --Harold J. My sister said I would look like a mushroom head, so I crossed that one off but I still might get swooped bangs.. Maybe.. I don't think I would mind using a flat iron and blow drying it if it was that short, because it wouldn't take me 10 years to dry. But i'm afraid it will make my face look bigger... Is it crazy or what? I’m totally intimated by hair. Gah I need help! ![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: I need hair help girls! To be happy with whatever you do to/with your hair, you need to work with it and not against it. It's going to be a huge amount of work to keep it in a fashion that is 'against its nature'. You sure you can't live with something a little wavy? My oldest daughter has long blonde hair and it's so thick and wavy that it looks like a bush if she doesn't tie it back sometimes, so I know what you mean about going to bed with it wet or whatever. Her solution is to wash it in the mornings, and tie it up in a topknot with the back hanging down. It's about half way down her back. She softens her face by having bangs in the front that she brushes back to the sides a little like "wings'. She also keeps the top just a tiny bit shorter than the rest, except for the bangs, to let it fluff and add a little height to it so it doesn't look slicked back on top. If you cut if short, it's for sure going to 'fuzz up' a good bit and require straightening regularly to keep it in line. I hate my hair on my face at all, so I've always pulled it back... sadly, I am on the other end of the scale. My hair is VERY straight and loves to crawl out of any sort of restraint. You have a good face to work with. I suggest you let it be a little softish on the top, brushed back on the sides some, but not slicked back. ( I should talk... mine is usually slicked back, always has been) You for sure don't need any width on it, that would tend to make your face seem too full. Nothing wrong with the shape of your face as is, but too much width to the hair would be like helmet head or bubble head in silhouette. Look at lots more magazines and if you trust your hairdresser... .. well... hair has a really great quality... it grows back. ![]() ![]() ~ "It's definitely a Bubble Bath Day.". ~ Dove Promise ~ Last edited by Snowy; 28th June 2006 at 12:17 AM.. |

![]() ![]() | Re: I need hair help girls! You have a beautiful face! As for the hair issue, seems as I get older the more wavy/curly my hair wants to get lol If let it dry naturally it curls up, if I blow dry it to straighten it a bit, it tends to go a bit frizzy. I keep my hair in a style thats flexible. I have bangs that I can brush to the side, tease up a bit, leave flat or curl, depending on what Im doing where Im going. The back length is just past my shoulders, the sides are a bit shorter, in a gradual 'rounded' cut, then along the sides of my face the sides are in a 'steep' cut. This allows the sides to curl up but in a layered like fashion, kind of hard to explain really. Also my stylist thins my hair, so when its call curled up it doesnt look bushy. But in this style I can wash and go and leave my hair down and have it still be managable, style it up for evenings, or do what I do most often.. just pull it up in a pony tail and fluff the bangs a bit lol Good luck with yours ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I'm going to keep it shoulder length with some layers and maybe some swoop bangs, that will be new. I'm also going to have my ears cut out becuase i'm tired of these wings that keep sticking out. They're taking toooooooooo long to grow out! I'll update you all Saturday, I'll either be crying or really happy ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I too have thick wavy, wais length hair and Snugglebug ,BELIEVE ME < when I say that hair style your thinking of going for is NOT low maintenance, I would go to a professional salon and maybe have your thinend out slightly ,and then maybe that style will sit better . Other options may be ,thinning it out and having a fringe, but leave the rest long enough to tie up ![]() Sadly there isnt much choice for us full headed people to choose from Hope you find a solution hun ![]() ![]() ![]() | |

![]() | Re: I need hair help girls! I too have very curly hair. **Think white persons afro** Don't go short! The best/worst thing I ever did was go short with my hair. I donated it to locks of love, but had them take 13 inches instead of 10....BIG MISTAKE! I needed those 3 inches to save me from the fro. When it is longer and carries more weight, it's so much easier to style if you want to straighten it or to tame the curls better. As Snowy said, go with it - not against it and it'll feel more natural and look the same. |
