Games giant Electronic Arts (EA) has announced plans to acquire online games develope

Games giant Games giant Electronic Arts (EA) has announced plans to acquire online games developer Mythic Entertainment.

The new studio, called EA Mythic, will develop Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs)

Mythic is behind online game Dark Age of Camelot and is currently developing Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

Mark Jacobs, CEO and co-founder of Mythic, said the proposed deal gave them "opportunities and resources we could only dream about in the past".

Did EA buy the liesse(spelling) to warhammer?

Or did they just buy the company producing warhammer online?

Cathat

Warhammer is still going to be made by EA Mythic if thats your concern. EA owns the license for to make the 'warhammer MMORPG' as well as the full license to DAC now

By purchasing Mythic and rolling them into EA - EA will be funding the finish of those projects like any other EA francise game made in any of its studios - just like all the LOTR stuff you see coming from here or whatever.

UO is a separate team from them - seperate producers, team, place and project budgets.

Thats about it.

Hmm.. I remember EA acquiring Westwood Studios the makers of Earth & Beyond MMORPG and right after acquiring it they closed it up and stopped Earth & Beyond. Hope they don't do the same with the Mythic titles

Didn't you know Pinky and the Brain own EA, they are taking over the (virtual) world!! Buying out the companies that own their competition just to close them down and raise their market.

Soon UO will be the only MMO out there...

Then they will subsequently destroy it by trying to integrate all the other MMO's characteristics into it.

When those studios can't keep the hits coming and their profits fall so short they can't even pay their rent and employee salaries - EA closes up thier shop and rolls many of them into its HQ. Sadly good games don't always equal sensible spending and profitability.

The irony is EA pays for many of the top engineers, artists and designers to come out here and live in the expensive CA pennensula if an autonamous studio fails.

I imagine the harsh realiity of it is so long as Mythic dones't Goof up Warhammer on the way to the finish line or any other MMOG project they do- EA probably has no plans to touch them - they just want to fund their stuff, have em make hits, and roll the excess profits into the company. *Shrugs - EA is a business - in the business to make money.

If they were not - then they'd be like Interplay - too many games all way over budget - oh, and out of business. Its a harsh life being a DEV. Wish it was more Care Bear sometimes - lol.
