Ok I'm going to be covering the trial of Maximus Meridius tomorrow but there's only one problem....I can't figure out how to save my journal! And no one PLEASE bring up UOJC, because I tried for 2 hrs today to get that work and nothing would give. Is there any other way to save your journal?

I believe it is in the UO Options menu.
Maybe even a macro. It COULD also have been just taken out of the game.

Edit your uo.cfg which is located in your /Desktop folder in whatever directory you installed UO.

Change this line to where ever you want to save your journal...

JournalSaveFile=d:\work\Docs\UOJC\uojournal4.txt

Then change this line so it is "on" like below...

SaveJournal=on

Save the file and load the game.. turn on the option mentioned above.. without making these changes to uo.cfg... regardless of changing the options in game, it will not save your log.

hmm okies then I'll have to try playing around with it again later on tonight *sighs* hopefully I'll get it working this time Spyder!

For those few of you who had the same question, here's what you need to do:

How to get your journal file to work

There are two ways to do this, both require you to go into option first in game and check the box to save your log. Once that is done then you can do what is showed below or try what is called UO Journal Converter.




1. In the character's uo.cfg file, make sure you have lines that look like

SaveJournal=on
JournalSaveUnicode=off
JournalSaveFile=C:\temp\grondjournal.txt

As always, each character has his or her own uo.cfg file; mine is in
C:\Program Files\Ultima Online 2D\Desktop\myaccountname\Sonoma\Grond

Note that it is not enough to turn on the "save journal to file" option from the option menu; that won't create the "JournalSaveFile" entry in uo.cfg, which must exist in order for your journal to be saved.

2. Create the file. E.g. in my case, I created an empty file named C:\temp\grondjournal.txt, and this causes the Journal to finally begin saving correctly.

Tip #1: Almost everything in UOJC has a hint, if you keep your mouse over an object, you will likely get a description of what it does.
Tip #2: The UOJC crafting.ini file contains messages for various skills that the program will filter out. Download this file from the main page to get the latest version, it is marked with a date of update so you know when it is new.
Tip #3: Click on the What's This? button in each of the pages of the Options screen, this will help you see what you can do there.
Tip #4: If UOJC crashes during conversion, your journal files maybe corrupted. There are several $temp files created during conversion, check them to try and retrieve the last data, here are the names of the important temp files:
$temp.txt: Contains the Contents of your main journal file.
$temphtml.txt: Contains the Contents of your last dated journal.
$$temp.txt: Contains the new, filtered journal from your current journal file.

• crafting.ini - Skill Messages, you should check the uojc homepage to download the latest skill file.

The two fields of text on top are the dates that you will rarely need to notice, they are mostly used internally in the program and not meant for you.

The Play UO button is for the most part the most used button. It does the UOJC Miracle and Starts UO. Basically all you need to do everytime you start UOJC is press this button.

The Abort button is for quitting UOJC, but if the Auto Start UO checkbox is checked, then UO will start, and if not then UOJC will simply quit. No conversion is done, so you probably guessed right, this button is to avoid conversion if you start UO alot of times in a short while, say if your client crashes or something. note: If you are using Journal Splitting by Sessions, then a new journal will be created every time you play UO. If the abort button is used to start UO, then you will still keep the text from this session in the same file. This is useful when you lose connection and want to keep your log in the same file, as pointed out above.

The Delete Journal button is to delete all journal entries for your LAST UO SESSION. Basically, everything you did last time you played UO, will be erased and UO will start (unless Auto Start UO is unchecked).

The Auto Start UO checkbox has two functions, both were described above. To avoid starting UO when Abort or Delete Journal are clicked, simply uncheck this. If you would like to permanently check/uncheck this, you can do so in the Options dialog.

The Info button will take you to the program information screen.

Setting Up UO.CFG:
1. Open the folder that contains your Ultima Online (usually c:\Program Files\Ultima Online\).
2. Then find the file named uo.cfg and double-click it. If the file is not assosiated with any programs you will see a window with several listed programs. Scroll down until you find: Notepad, select it and click OK.
3. Anywhere in the file, add the following lines (if they dont already exist, in that case simply make sure they are set to the correct value as shown below):
• SaveJournal=on
• JournalSaveUnicode=off
• JournalSaveFile=C:\[directory]\Journal.txt
Instead of [directory] you can enter any directory on your hard drive, I do not recommend the same directory as your UO since you will have a lot of journal files and its nice to have them all in a separate folder. You can create a sub-directory inside your UO directory. (look in windows help if you dont know how).

Journal.txt is only a name that I chose for convenience, if you have a better name, feel free to use it, but be sure to configure your UOJC accordingly.

4. UO.CFG configuration ready.

Setting Up UO Journal Converter:
1. Run uojc.exe and install it to a directory of your choice on your hard drive.
2. For UOJC to do its job properly you MUST make sure that you always start UOJC and not UO or UOAssist. Since UOJC is in no way connected with either of the two, it must run to do its job. To make this easy, you may do the following:
• Open the folder with your UO Journal Converter.
• Drag UO Journal Converter.exe to your Desktop (or Start Button) and release it. A shortcut should appear on your desktop (or in your Start Menu) that you can now double click to start the software.

Ok, youre finished now. Goto the Configuration section to find out how to configure UOJC.

Cancel: Click here to remove all the changes (except the application starter settings and date style, which are saved when you set them) that you made and return to the main window.

Save/Update: This option Saves the changes that you made and updates all the displays, but leaves you in Options.

Emergency Exit: This is the little Door looking button next to Save/Update and is used to Quit UOJC without saving the settings, if you press cancel, and your UO Path or UOAssist path is not correct, you will not be able to exit the options dialog, so then use this button.
