Question Which shard should I play?

Which shard should I play?

My main hours of play are from 4 am to 6 am EST (GMT-5). however I live on the east coast of the USA. Two shards I have tried both shut down at 5am est.
What shard is good to look into considering my location and time I normally play.

Re: Which shard should I play?

Your best bet would probably be west coast or european shards

Pacific is , or used to be busy, that's west coast
Europa would be busy at that time, that'd be 9-11AM GMT time

Worth giving them a try!

Re: Which shard should I play?

I think he's looking for shards that go down for maintenance during different hours than his "game time". I think some west coast shard (origin, pacific) go down for maintenance at 4am PST so you should be relatively safe playing from 4-6am EST.

Re: Which shard should I play?

Baja goes down at about 6am PST, and it is a pretty busy shard. I guess I am biased though, cause that is my shard. There is a lot of good action over there. I live in South Dakota and I dont ping that bad from here.

Since im bored...................

Question
When do the UO shards go down for maintenance?

Answer
The UO servers are constantly in the process of "backing up" the game. It takes about 45 to 90 minutes for each cycle to complete, though the length of time this takes depends greatly on the amount of data that is stored in each world.

The daily maintenance period will start at the first completed backup cycle after the maintenance window begins. For example, if all things were perfect, the backup would end at 5:00am, and the server would go down for maintenance at this time as well. However, if the server is in the middle of a backup at 5:00am, it will continue that backup to the end, and then go down for maintenance. Due to this factor of uncontrolled variability in the backup cycles, the downtime will not happen at exactly 5:00am each day.

Maintenance Schedule

Japanese Shards 8am JST:
Asuka
Hokuto
Izumo
Mizuho
Mugen
Sakura
Wakoku
Yamato

European Shards 5am GMT/UTC:
