I have no problems with it. I myself have bought UO stuff through email or brokers for RL cash. I've never spent a lot...$10 here...$5 there...sold a few things too, but I have not done a lot of that.

My reasons were along what Snowy and Keven said. It's a hobby. There were times that I wanted to get a little ahead (such as when I started Siege, I bought a mill there). We sacrifice things to have our UO, like Keven, we don't go out a lot. We only go to the movies a couple times a year, etc etc.

So when I see something I want..I don't feel too guilty buying it because I know I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on hobbies. *shrugs*

I wish my wife would get into UO with me. Instead, I get looks from across the couch pretty much silently telling me to get off the damn computer! hehe.. But then again, she says she enjoys it sometimes when I am on there, this way she can do things around the house that she doesnt want me bothering her with.

And it's a cheap hobby too, compared to our other ones like snowboarding. That's why I never minded spending $ on it.

I used to give my bf the dirty looks too when he spends hours in from of the computer, until I started sitting beside him just watching, then playing with his chars. I've got my own account now and it's more fun playing with him than just watching.

In my opinion, it's no one's business but the person buying/selling the items.

I bought my wife an account when ML came out, for 2 reasons, so I could get all the tokens, and so she could have a character to play. I built her up a nice suit and everything, used the advaned character on a swordsman for her. As I think that is the best way to start out IMO. She tried it once and decided she wasnt into it. Now I just keep the account so I can have a Fel house and a Malas house. I got a great location for it too, and dont want to give either of my houses up. I believe I have 2 really awesome spots. My malas house is inside of the Orc Forst, which is something I've always wanted from when I first started playing, and just 3 months ago was able to get one. The fel house is right outside of Destard. We have had some pretty good fights out there with rival guilds. Its a great place to regroup and go back out. Problem is tho, my buddy who gave it to me now is in a rival guild, and he knows all the weaknesses inside of it. hehe.. I gotta rebuild it so he cant stand out there and pinpoint its faults..

Now the wife just likes to listen on whats going on now and then. She hates when I am talking on Vent tho, and only hears one side of a conversation. I can imagine it sounds weird to hear that...

With me, it's a little different as I've bought a few items for maybe five dollars at the most and turned around and sold them for gold.

What amazes me is that there are some atrifacts on eBay that are selling for hundreds of dollars real money and two good examples were the artifact 'Inquisitors Resolution' selling for $349.00 and a ruined painting from Doom that only spawns once every four moths selling for $250.00 and people will plunk down serious $$ for it.

It's the same with gold as there are some people who are selling millions and I do mean millions of gold and for a fair amount of money.

That what creeps me out just a little, that and young players running around with artifacts like 'breath of the dead'..to me, it's kind of like giving a 6 year old a loaded weapon.

And, getting arties like that...to me, it spoils the sense of adventure and accomplishment.

But to each their own, I guess.

And yeah, my fiance has started playing after watching me play and is enjoying it immensely.

heh, I couldn't do that either. We don't farm, we just play. We do whatever we're in the mood for when we log on. We aim to raise 9 million gp per month. With 2 of us playing we usually do that ok. But we don't feel the need for uber kit or fancy rares. What kit we have we've gotten for ourselves along with the gold. None of my chars has a single major artifact.

i found a breath of the dead on a vendor a few weeks ago for 650k, and was stoked! I went to fel to try it out, it was insured when I bought it, so I didnt think twice bout it. Well first death, the guy was whooping about how he just got an artie off me. It pissed me off to no end!!! Now I commonly uninsure items then insure them when I buy them. That was an expensive mistake.

The only artifact that I've ever bought from a vendor was the flesh ripper for my assassin.. I mean I've nothing against buying stuff from vendors...it's shelling out rl $$ that kind of freaks me out.

But then again, to each their own.

Its a hobby. Ppl spend money on hobbies all of the time. Nothing wrong there.


If have sold some stuff on ebay in the past from the game. In fact I worked to get a character suited up fairly strongly, then sold the account to a guildmate. the suit didnt go with it, but it sold seperately for $160.00.

All things being said, selling extra junk I had laying around (I dont keep anything if it doesnt have pvp value to it), I had enough in my paypal account to pay for a 4 day trip to breckenridge to meet up and have fun witha few guidies.

So its all good to me.


Where I do have a problem is when you have the asian farmers being exploited in a sweatshop or ppl scripting 24/7 just to make a RL living. Thats not playing the game.
