How Do You Feel??
What is the general consensus on players who go out and spend $$ on massive amounts of gold and artifacts?
Just Curious? |

Re: How Do You Feel??
I am kind of indifferent really.
On one note I would never buy any gold for rl cash or anything like that. However I don't condemn those who do since I have sold gold in the past and wouldn't turn down a castle someone baught me for rl monies... if anyone is so inclined to do so let me know!

Re: How Do You Feel??
I personally make more money IRL than in game, so sometimes the casual player like myself may need to go online to get some edge. I know buying online is supporting those who script and farm and pretty much cheat to get what they got to sell. But its a neverending cycle, I once read that the MMORPG section of ebay is a MULTI thousand dollar a year business. Something like 20% of their business or something like that. Pretty amazing if you ask me. I would never use UOtreasures tho, that is the epitomy of Luna. Everything is WAY overpriced. I saw crimson cinctures, which should go for roughly 15mil, or about $90, are selling for $249. COME ON!!!!!

Re: How Do You Feel??
I bought gold twice, I think...1 mil and then 2 mil.
The big thing for me is that it could all be gone in three months time. Just up and vanish leaving the person who invested rl cash in the lurch. I guess its not a great deal different than someone who has invested loads of time, but there is diferentiation there, for me at least. |

Re: How Do You Feel??
I am amazed at the people who will pay actual money for the electronic goodies. But then it is a hobby and most people pay money out for hobbies.. Golf is one of those high cost ones, electronic gaming is just a different type of hobby so spending cash for it isn't that far out of whack.. I wouldn't pay to play golf either though
. It is a mixed bag for me since my son in law sells his extra gold on the side. He made enough during the past few years to keep our three accounts paid for and a little extra, so we can't complain. He has a regular clientele that know they can usually count on him for 10 to 20 mil pretty quickly. Then too, he gives me my 'allowance' of a mil or two a month. So you see, I am biased in favor of the people who buy it. But would not consider doing it myself. More of the 'to each his own' mindset around here. Someone offered us 1000 dollars US for the castle our family 'owns' on LS near Vesper and we were all stunned at it. We didn't sell and don't plan to do so, but the very idea of someone plunking down 1000 dollars for a bit of cyberstuff!! had us all talking about how some people have more money than sense at the time. Once again, it's a hobby. Some people just spend more money on their hobbies than others.

Re: How Do You Feel??
If you have the money and want to buy some pixel eye candy, then by all means go for it lol. Personally I would never shell out any more money then I already do for games.

Re: How Do You Feel??
I agree with snowy on the fact that it is indeed a hobby. Who here has spent $$s continually for a hobby of theirs? I know my Harley is a constant hobby, I get enjoyment out of riding it, as do I get enjoyment playing UO, so I guess its half a dozen of one and half a dozen of the other...

Our financial situation isn't what it was when we first started playing. By buying gametime codes for gp from a broker we are able to create a situation where the game pays for itself. My husband and I earn every gp legitmately hunting and crafting. Not afk and not using scripts. So you see, you're not just supporting the cheaters, you're supporting us, and others like us. By buying the gold we pay to our broker for game time you are allowing us to continue to play a game we very much enjoy.

Re: How Do You Feel??
Ok, I should have stated that differently, but I would venture to guess that a good amount of the gold is from scripting. I have seen several people on ebay selling 20mil on multiple shards. I know that playing and trying to farm gold legitametly, I couldnt make that much without losing some of the fun factor. Or else all you would be doing is farming, and not enjoying the interaction that the game provides. So I apologize to the real farmers out there...

Re: How Do You Feel??
We've bought and sold a few things online. If people are willing to buy stuff that we think are junk with rl $ then they can have it. Whatever we made selling stuff is what we used to buy what we want.
We've stopped buying with rl $ now since we're making our own gold by hunting and selling everything we get on our vendor. |
