On Clothing Art

Player: Ooh! That brings up a question for GrimmOmen!!
Grimmy: Chainmail changes form depending on what gender equips it. Why, then, do kimonos and elf robes have to be crafted into male or female pieces? Why couldn't they be the same item that just appears differently when worn?

Grimm: OK, this is just wierd. Want to know whats second from the top of my "hope to do" list? Hint: This thread hits it dead on the head.

Now to answer your question, there is a way for us to set up a "universal" system for wearables. We weren't aware of this at the time of UOSE. We hope to be able to go in and make this truly universal with all wearables. Another reason for this is say you get a sweet piece of armor loot, you try to put it on and it says, "Sorry, only men can wear this!". That's not good news. So there are a lot of benefits to implementing this system.
Player: Which brings up the question, what is the top thing on your list?
Grimm: Well, the #1 thing on my wish list is to redo some of the UOSE assets. We really didn't have the asset pipeline down enough then. So that's #1 on my "I hope I get to do" list.

And no, we don't have anything for "only men can wear this" I was of course talking about the "Only women can wear this" message, but felt the need to flip the genders since this was a "For the women" thread.

... It made sense in my head anyway.

BTW, if we can actually get to it, let us do it THEN let us know if you still love us! ;-)
Player: My swordswoman might be a ferocious warrior, but it doesn't mean she doesn't want to look good, too.
CatHat: Yeah i hear ya - the omin present battle between looks and function.

Well a small ray of hope there - from now on we're going to try to make so that the Ladies and Gent wearables shall be made completely separate at the time of creation. The women can now have the kind of fashionable looks in their armor and clothing and the guys another. No more Unisex armor outfits that wind up looking awkard on the ladies.

So when it comes to you putting on a miss match pair of armor in the future due to their high stats - with any luck at least the newest pieces might be looking really nice.

I'm also working hard to make sure everything new we build from now on, can be Hued (dyed in game) and look nice. That way you could at least make sure that your Bandana, Cloak and Kilt are color coordinated. Heh.
CatHat: Hey well rather than making 'magical' clothing options that change it from tight to loose fit - we'll just need to make some new items in the future that are more 'sexy' for both men and women. Heh UO clubwear - SLUTWEAR dunna dunna dunna - yay!

No Seriously, when we make some things in the future well make sure that there's some more variety for you guys. Considering there's a flood of bluky stuff we'll try to offset that in the conceptual stage in the future with some more dashing things, OK?

Heh - but i know no matter what we make - folks will be wearing stuff accoring to its properties. If Design made a magical inflatable duckie headed innertube of +30 to Mage level cap - it would be an inflatable yellow nightmare down in the dungeons now wouldn't it?
Player: Please no! There is NO logical reason at all for platemail armor have extentions in them to put boobs in. And even less reason to have heavy platemail that leaves the top part of the chest exposed.

I don't want to see boobs, and I definately do not want to see skin.

CatHat: What I meant by "extesions in the platemail" is that the cup size could be more pronounced or larger on some armor sets. Something with more visibility about the fact that under that armor there's a female character. So when you see the tiny armor running across the screen - you'll go oh - "ok that's a girl."

Yeah - I know logic and functionality rarely has anything to do with some of the 'fantasy' outfits you see out there, specially with the ladies stuff (cough cough, paintings of crotchless platemail WTF) - but there could definately be more options with more sexy style and finnese out there.

Sexy stuff doens't HAVE to be skimpy things like our amazon outfits, though sometimes it can be. But like all good stores and malls - there should always be a variety of things available. Folks should be able to find items that accent and express their character the way they like. Some girls want to have their feminine attributes somewhat more visible and not be mistaken for a guy. Understandable - i bet a lotta the guys wouldn't want to be mistaken for ladies - lol.

My Girl is in fact a 38DD, so when she see some of what we got in game she's like uh - you got any armor in there that looks any bigger on top? Judging from the posts she's not alone in this.

If we put out enough vareity of stuff out there of a good quality - hopefully the creame will rise to the top and folks can all happily find things to content themselves with wearing.

But don't worry - I won't be making any ludicuris outfits that are like topless peekaboo platemail or anything like that - lol - we are a "T" Teen rated game after all. My apologies to all the rabid horn dogs out there. Thats so not gonna happen.

Good posts guys - Love hearing your thoughts!

I think the last "player" to respond is scared of girlies and their assets...

Re: On Clothing Art

I am, in fact, a 57 year old grandmother and while I don't want my granddaughters and grandsons subjected to Mature themes.. I DO want to look the part I have chosen. I am certain that is possible. In another thread I participated in recently, we 'opted' for 'better endowed' ladies and more feminine looking nice outfits. That is not outside the realm of possiblilty of having while also NOT getting raunchy in design. All it takes is the desire to do it, (and tons of help from the designers and developers )

Thank you all for at least having this on a burner somewhere!:cheesy: (I would offer to flirt with you for effect, but your girlfriend might object. A 38D lady is not to be ignored, we just don't take it well!!!
