seeking necromancer advice

I'm planning on creating a necromancer with my new account

I forget the specifics of my old necromancer but the skills I knew I had were

Swordsmanship, magery, necromancy, spirit speak

but I forgot what other ones I had.

any advice on creating and playing one I've been looking around for guides but couldn't find anything.

Re: seeking necromancer advice

hmm seems like a lot on the template... you will want some more mana regen.. meditation at least... then it depends on what you are doing with the char i suppose... healing and ana would be good, but you could also go eval int and resist spells... are you looking to be primarily a mage/necro or a melee necro?

if you are going melee necro you may want to thro tactics on there to get the extra damage increase, in that case you will probably not want Eval int. however, if you go that route you probably don't need magery at all as wraith form allows you to recall with out fail..

if you go mage/necro you may want to scrap swords and go with Wres.. that way you can hold your spell books with extra mods (extra fc/frc, mana regen, lmc, lrc,....)

basically you could do quite a bit with the template, but you want to avoid putting too much on it or you will not be able to do anything... or at least anything well...

just my thoughts tho..

Re: seeking necromancer advice

thanks, it'd prolly be mage necro thats mostly what I used last time I played

mostly just blade spirit summoning and animated anything it purees

my main fear was not getting use out of spells like curse weapon and teh melee demon form.

would alchemy be any good as a craft skill with a mage necro?

oh and any advice for starting, should I start with necro and magery and buy SS?

Re: seeking necromancer advice

If you are going to put resist spells on your char start them with that, however mostly pvm doesn't really need resist spells... SS is pretty easy to train so i would probably just buy that. however Melee can be rather difficult or time consuming to train so you might want to consider starting with that.

Alchemy doesn't really give you any bonuses in regards to damage, so if i were you id save that for another char.. otherwise you run the risk of having too much on the template and then you can't do anything efficiently.

if by chance you are on Siege then a craft skill might be warrented, however i do not play Siege and am probably not the best person to advise in that regards ..

so if you are going the Mage/necro template.. I would say

necro
SS
Mage
Eval
Med
melee.. (wrs, swords, etc)
extra into focus tacts, healing... etc kinda up to you on what you want

Re: seeking necromancer advice

here is an odd question, I know I don't want to add to much but would ninjutsu add anything good to a mage necro? I will be honest I think it's mostly cause I like the idea of animal forms hah

the last thing I'll prolly add is spellweaving once I decide to get mondain's legacy.

Re: seeking necromancer advice

I haven't used spellweaving at all so i can't really comment about it, im not sure what the min. skill is for animal form, but if it is somewhat low you might be able to stick it on with the few remaining points... you do have to watch out of the mana drain that all of this will be causing.. if you have three skills that draw from you mana, two skills for extra damage, one skill to help stop fizzing, you only have one skill left to recharge your mana... so when you bottom out it may take a while to recharge.

there are of course ways around this.. you could build a good medable mana regen suit that would help with recovery.. but you will still want meditation as imo there is not substute for it on a mage template.

all in all it might be a viable template, it all depends on how you play it and if you can get yourself used to it. i guess the best thing is to get your main skills trained up and then experiment with different extras and see what works best for you.

good luck, from what ive heard about spellweaving if you can get all of that to work together you should be doing pretty damn good

Re: seeking necromancer advice

mage-necro-bard is a good template.. if your not going to be useing your magery for any big spells then you could drop it and go

Necro
SS
Mage
Med
Music
Peace/Provo/Discord

(usefull spawning template if you spawn is haveing peace)

depending on what you want, on my mage-necrro i dropped both med and eval, got a mana reg/lmcsuit, live in wraith form and have peace and provoke... works a charm pvm... or does for me

I'm not trying to dump on you, but I don't think ninjitsu and necro would be a good mix....just my opinion though.

Re: seeking necromancer advice

My necro goes as is:
110 eval
60 focus
115mage
110 med
110 necro
100 spellweaving
110 SS (120 with that talisman)

I wear like 31 LMC and have 4 mana regen, 100lrc suit. At spawns I cast a wisp and just wither everything in sight. It is a great champ spawn character, as well as having magery to field off the champ from invaders. Its alot of fun to play. I know spellweaving is going to be getting the nerf soon, but it still has plenty of other good spells like that gift of life. That spell is great when you are a red and need a rez in the middle of nowhere.
